I actually had the intention of writing this song as something we could sing as a worship ministry because our vision was really to learn how to live a worship lifestyle- going back to being empty and yearning for God. I remembered once hearing that we were created to worship and enjoy God, which is the reason why we’re here on earth, the reason why we’re made just as we are. It’s really a yearning and a cry to God to bring us back to where we’ve begun, to remember that our purpose on earth was and is to serve Him in everything we do. Even through doing this CD, I struggled at times thinking that maybe ‘I wasn’t made for this’, but God spoke to me immediately through the line in this song, ‘all I am was made for one thing, to live a life of praise and worship, live a life to honour You.’ Praise to the Lord !
This is one of those God-given songs that just came during my personal time of worship. I just liked the part where I got to SHOUT it out to Him. Sometimes we all miss the exuberance and passion in worshipping and I wrote this just because I wanted a fast song and I meant everything about singing it all for Him. Especially after Kev added the bridge and the awesome riff, we all love jamming this song and shouting our praise to Him!
This song is simply an expression of this- “The Lord never fails to amaze me. Many times I’m just left speechless in awe of Him.” Whenever I feel His overwhelming love and am in awe of Him, singing this song really expresses my heart. This song is a song of thanksgiving and amazement of God’s hand over one’s life.
‘Finding You’ in itself is really just me searching for God, searching really hard for Him who will fill the gaps in my life. It’s one of my personal favourites because it means a lot to me. Each line is really my struggle or a belief I place in Him. It’s a process of setting out to find Him, realising that many of us are tired and sick of trying so hard, and of being someone we’re not. It’s a process of seeking someone who would understand us through and through and heal us from all the times we’ve been disappointed or hurt. It’s a process of finding Jesus who will allow us to die inside to truly live. At the end of the song, we acknowledge He’s the one who will capture our hearts and blow us away again, and that as He breaks us, there’s no more lies, no more disguises, but truth. (Jeremiah 29:13-14) “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32
Identity is something that we all struggle with- between what people think of us, what we think of ourselves, and what the Lord thinks. I guess it’s not just a teen problem but also an issue that everyone grapples with. I wrote this song because I too, could identity with having these problems and I wanted to write it as a reminder that being a child of God is my sole identity and that nothing can change that fact, that nothing else matters but that. God touched me through this process of writing the song and now I know and believe so strongly that my identity lies in Him alone because I am created special and unique in His eyes, just like you. The conclusion’s that our identity is so etched in His name that our identity is Him alone. (Isaiah 43:1, 7)
I wrote this song because I went through a period of uncertainty, where I was working hard for something I could not see; yet believed that it was what God was calling me to do. Trust me, it may have sounded easy but it was no simple feat at all as I seemed foolish to the world. All I could rely on at this time was God’s promises and the faith in His unchanging character. It drew me to remembering His power and His all-knowing character and therefore to letting go to a God who will take care of me. The line ‘Let go of the gripping hand upon my life’ and the image of us clinging on to our lives was very striking for me. I love this song a lot because it helps me remember to truly let go of my entire life to Him, even when it’s hard. I pray that by listening to this song, you’ll slowly release your clenched fists on different aspects of your life and lift your hands to the Lord in full surrender. (Matthew 6:25-34)
I love this song! I love singing it to God! That’s all I can say. Even till now, listening to it or singing it really tugs my heart. It’s an amazingly simple, intimate song that really expresses the heart that longs to be with Jesus. (Psalm 84:1-2)
This song is like a half hymn and it has pretty deep lyrics! Yet it is very simple because of it’s simple repeating tune. Similarly, this is represented in the simple fact that I wanted to convey: God’s love that rescued us. I was thinking of the one thing that I felt was so important and I felt that the line ‘Your love rescued me’ said everything. Throughout our lives, He constantly rescues us. In our sin and our regret, He rescues. In our disappointment and failure, He rescues. Ultimately, even when we’re down to nothing and we reach for Him, His love rescues. I like the lasting image of a person who has tears rolling down his face, thrown in rags and reaching desperately for Him- people like us who have sinned, fallen not once but many times, yet He still beckons us and came to earth to rescue us from ourselves.
The inspiration of this song actually came from the intention of writing a song for a dear friend who was getting married! (You both know who you are!) Then I realised that life has so many checkpoints, and at each new phase in life there’s always fear and reminiscence. At many of the different ‘new phases’ of my life, I have found encouragement in this song. It speaks to encourage and remind people that God will never leave us through every journey in life. The bridge is based on my favourite ‘birthday verse’, Jeremiah 29:11. So, Bon Voyage on whatever journey you’re about to take, my friend!
One thing about God you can never forget is His love for us. It’s only His love that can reach so far and it was the amazement of the extent and depth of His love that made me write this. I want these last few words, ‘Your love still remains’ to echo and linger in people’s hearts such that they know and believe that in everything, His love will always remain.
